Camp Cormac Work Weekend October 7th thru 9th

Once again, it is that time of year where Americans get ready to honor Christopher Columbus, the man who is credited with discovering America. Americans will be celebrating in many different ways. Some will take advantage of the great store sales named in his honor. Others just honor him by sleeping in late on Monday, October 9th but there are those hardy few that will trek great distances not as far as Chris had but close. To a place in the North Country called Schroon. Here the hardy few who have survived their own treks from all parts of this country they call America, will embark on a weekend of what they call work. They have left their loved ones behind to gather to this hill in order to make a better place for themselves and their families. These hardy soles come packing with only tools, a few days clothes, just enough food for their survival but they always make sure there is plenty drink. They come here with the hopes they can resurrect a cabin, which once held fond memories of the earlier settlers back to its original self with addition of a few modern amenities.

These new settlers will be hanging sheet rock, taping and spackling, painting, putting up molding, addressing some plumbing issues, finishing the kitchen flooring and putting the finishing touches on the kitchen.

As we all know Chris was not able to finance his trip across the pond by himself if he did not sure if he would ever had come close to discovering America in a Sunfish sized sailboat. Chris had the financial backing from the Queen of Spain. These new settlers do not have the luxury of knowing the Queen of Spain or any Queen for that matter so they have to turn to their families and relatives for this financial support. Over the years, they have received financial support from some of their relatives on a regular basis, which helps them keep the King off their backs. As we, all know the King always wants his share and is always raising the local tariffs. After paying the King local and corporation tariffs, there is very little pence left over for the new settlers to complete the construction of the cabin and address other upkeep issues such as the running water coming into the cabin.

So it is asked of the relatives of these hardy soles who will be making the trek to Schroon during the Columbus Day weekend, to please send whatever financial backing they can to Tom Weiner.

At one point during the upcoming Columbus Day Weekend these hardy soles will raise their pints of ale in a toast thank those who were able to send some financial means. They will also toast Chris and at least one of them after a few pints of ale will make a toast to the great Lola Falana.

Sincerely,

The Jester*
